Hands-On Discovery Trunks
The Shoreline Historical Museum makes available six educational trunks located at the Instructional Media Center at the Shoreline School District Central Office, and may be reserved by any teacher or home school teacher in the Shoreline School District through the Instructional Media Center. www.shorelineschools.edu The trunks contain variety of items for use in the classroom such as slides, photos, real artifacts that can be handled, examined and discussed, a notebook on historical cultural activities, and ideas for setting up a classroom museum, Additionally, the Museum has a separate trunk available to teachers from any district, or other educational organizations such as scout groups and daycare centers. Informative and educational outreach lectures on a variety of historical topics are available to teachers in the classroom setting and other groups, both children and adults. Environmental history, development of the area through changing transportation, local Native American history, and business history are just some of the subjects that can be booked. The Museum conducts walking tours of historic Richmond Beach by reservation and every year at the Richmond Beach Strawberry Festival in May, and Interurban Trail tours by reservation or at the City of Shoreline’s WALKS for Health event in May. Tours of the Museum itself will resume in May of 2011.
Internships for both high school students and college students are available and are custom-designed for each individual. College students may focus on an area of interest, such as the archives, or request a general internship. High school internships maintain a general focus, and are conducted on Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
